Upon revisiting the wording of their condominium documents, the owner of this unit realized they have rights to the roof of the building. Working with the neighborhood historical association, the architect was able to repurpose an unused elevator shaft as a penthouse office with sweeping view of downtown Boston, the Massachusetts State House, and Boston Harbor. The office also led out to a roof deck that occupied as much of the remainder of the roof as was allowed by right.
